Q & A With Chris Inperspective & MC Qdini >>

When Chris Inperspective & MC Qdini came along for the system check sessions Tidal gave them a quick fire round of Q & A, to find out more about Inperspective Records..

SYSTEM CHECK :: 'In the studio' :: 04/05/03

'So what were your early musical memories?'

Chris :- I suppose it was when I was at home, breakdancing trying to spin on my head! I listened to a lot of my parents music, Calypso, Ray Charles, etc; and a lot of sister's music as well. Manhattan Transfer etc. That was my influences from back then. But Anyone that know will know I'm a huge Radiohead fan as well, they do some interesting things. Influences come from everywhere though.

Qdini :- Reggae background, Soul background a little bit of Hip-Hop everything really.

'So when were your first feeling the dance music vibes?'

Chris :- It's was through the hardcore, I used to hang out round my friends house listening to pirate station's when I was about 13/14. I got into sampling around then on the amiga, and that's when I first hooked up with Equinox.

Qdini :- Early 1992 /1993 weekend Rush would be playing on the pirate stations in london a lot of people at school were getting into it as well.

'When did you 2 hook up then?'

Qdini :- It was about 93/92, there wasn't really any musical connection, we used to have some of the same friends.

Chris :-There was this guy we knew called kevin who had a Neo Geo me & Q used to go round, he used to have everything!

'So how did the inperspective idea come about?'

Chris :-It was just a case of about 1997, I was talking to Equinox saying. I was sick & tired of going out and hearing the same old nonsense! We out put the first release, and it didn't do that well because we couldn't get distribution for it. It was 2 Tek Unlimited tracks in the source direct / photek vein and at the time, all the whole Tech-Step thing came in and it quite frustrating. It Took us a few years to re-group and was the shutting of section 5 which, made me wanted me to get things going again. I hooked up with ASC, Pariah, Senses, Breakage, Fracture, Neptune & Polska.

'So Q you enjoy being the resident MC for Inperspective?'

Qdini :- Definitely I do respect it. It's a nice position to be in, We got MC Stirlin on the team as well, and System & DRS now and again.

'Your Technicality nights has been hailed as the new speed..How did the idea come about?'

Chris :-We wanted a montly night that was going to be an alternative to what was around. I mean we had Movement, Swerve & Progression Sessions and we just wanted to move things along; and to give the oppertunity for drum 'n' bass that doesn't really get heard in these sort of clubs. The whole idea is for people to come together enjoy it & get into vibe.

'You've had some top guest on your Technicality Nights?'

Chris :-Yes we've had Blame, Paradox, Klute, PHD, Clever, Vincent Dphie, Seba, Cedar & Bailey. I got to say Bailey has helped us a lot, he came down and checked us out, and his been playing a lot of our tunes on 1Xtra, and he got behind us.

'So Q have you enjoyed Mcing alongside these special guests?'

Qdini :- I Definitely enjoyed MCing alongside the bigger names you never really get that opportunity, It's great to hear the Dj's skills.

'I've heard the hilarious punches you do in your rhymes. I mean for a drum & bass Mc it's quite refreshing, do you feel it's part of your style or do you feel Mc's have to be witty?'

Qdini :- I Don't know it's real hard question! I just like writing, I've wrote so many things, noone even heard. I just like writing funny things, or the stories or something thats got a point to it.

'So what are your plans for the future?'

Chris :- A fews are happening, a lot of the things are in a liquid state. But Theres is certainly a lot of potential. A date in Russian is on the cards, and also there's plans of a U.S Tour. Were trying to cram in as many nights as we can in 2 weeks! We've got about 4/5 lined up for with potentially more.

'I heard youself & Equinox played a wicked set at Faultline the other month in San Francisco?'

Chris :- We hooked up with the faultline guys, DJ M & Agent Sunshine for faultline...That venue is crazy. We saw Blame & Stirlin at the airport and they were going the other way. Blames goes, "Wait till yo see the venue!" It's basically a top floor of an apartment block. So it's like someones kitchen during the day! There was like a skate ramp at one end it was MAD!! It was cracking night though.

'You've got a funny story about Limerick though when you were on your Ireland Tour?'

Chris :- We were in this town in the middle of nowhere in Irleand, but it was a lovely place; and there was this guy chatting to us while we were setting up, and this guy was saying "Where's the drums and all that?" Then I said. "What do you mean?" then he goes "Well it says drum 'n' bass outside". So the guy wanted to know where our drum's were! I explained we were DJ's and I was thinking, they won't be into what were doing; but by the end of the night it was great! A big up to all the Irish Drum 'n' Bass crew! It's all the beats at the end of the day, were all trying to do different things and move things along!
